Jenny’s an Olympic Torch Bearer!
Monday 11th June 2012 is a big day for sport in the Western Isles, as the Olympic flame arrives in Stornoway, and for SRAC’s Jenny Mactaggart it’s going to be a day to remember for the rest of her life, albeit with an early rise, as she gets the chance to carry the Olympic torch, one of 20 lucky people to have this unique privilege. Jenny will run the leg down Matheson Road from the Goathill Road junction down to Sandwick Road - at 7.17am!
Here is Jenny's nomination story
"Jenny at 15 years old, has excelled in sport - both at club level locally, and through school, and also at regional and national level. 2011 in particular was a huge year for her. She is passionate about all sport - with a focus on football, rugby and athletics. Her main love though is athletics - and in the 2011 she excelled in her chosen events - sprinting and long jumping - culminating in a superb silver medal at the National Scottish Schools Championships for Long Jump in Grangemouth. In doing so, she has firmly established herself at both U15 girls regional and national level, as well as within the Western Isles. Jenny finished the year ranked no. 3 in long jump, 11 for 100m, and 16 for 200m for U15 girls in Scotland."
So set the alarms, and come along and cheer Jenny on, along with the other Western Isles torch bearers, and join in in the excitement for what will without doubt be a once in a lifetime experience !
