The Endurancelife Real Relay hits Stornoway

Real Relay Squad

Several members from Stornoway Running and Athletics Club took part in the Endurancelife Real Relay. This is an exciting attempt to follow the entire route of the official Olympic Torch around the British Isles in one continuous non-stop journey - running every step of the way.

It started out from Land’s End at midnight on Monday 28 May, ten days behind the official Olympic Torch. The Real Relay will involve hundreds of runners from across the British Isles running through the day and night on an 8000 mile mission to reach London in time for the Olympic Games opening ceremony. The relay is also raising money for a charity providing week-long respite breaks for disadvantaged children. The Baton reached Stornoway airport at 6.50pm on Monday evening. It was carried from there by some quality members of the SRAC crew through Sandwick, Matheson Road and into the Castle grounds where some junior members of the Club joined the runners taking the baton to its final island destination of Stornoway Ferry Terminal.

The Baton travelled on the Isle of Lewis to Ullapool on Tuesday morning where it was collected to continue its journey to Olympia. SRAC would like to thank the support crew - Catherine, John and Helen – who provided transport, water and encouragement along the way.

The relay is also raising money for  CHICKS, a charity providing week-long respite breaks for disadvantaged children from across the UK. We have made a donation to the Charity but feel free to make an additional donation online via Virgin Money.
