Autoparts Stornoway Half Marathon & 10k

Our popular island race has been taking place annually since 1984 making 2024 the 39th edition. The route is an exciting mix of road and trail, firstly taking runners on a tour of greater Stornoway then onto the beautiful forest trails of the Lews Castle Grounds. Don’t worry the trails are very runnable and suitable for road shoes! The Half Marathon starts and finishes right in the heart of the town centre on the inner harbour next to the marina which is always full of cheering fans and a great atmosphere.

Post-race you will experience island hospitality at its best with a post-race buffet and epic Ceilidh in the evening to dance away the night, always great craic and a friendly warm welcome for all!

The event is organised by Stornoway Running & Athletics Club and our small band of unpaid volunteers. All profit from the event is used by the Club to develop running and athletics on the island. By entering the Half & 10k you are directly supporting the Club to train coaches, buy equipment, hire facilities and support the expensive travel costs of our young athletes competing all over Scotland all year round! Ticket sales from our post race ceilidh are donated to a nominated local charity each year.

NOTES:
Team prizes decided by the combined times of the first 3 runners from each team.

Only one prize will be awarded per runner, e.g. if a V40 runner finishes 2nd overall they will be awarded the 2nd place trophy and the first V40 outside the top three will receive the V40 prize.

Veteran runners will receive the awards in their own category only, so even if a V50 finishes ahead of a V40 they will receive the V50 trophy.

The only exceptions to this are the local prizes and the team prizes which will be awarded to runners even if they have won another category prize.

In order to be eligible for the local prizes you must be an Isle of Lewis resident with a HS1 or HS2 postcode for at least 12 months prior to race day (25th May 2024).

2024 route details coming soon!

Race registration will be in MA Hall (Stornoway Free church hall) from 5pm to 9pm on Friday evening 24th May. There you will collect your Half Marathon or 10k race number for the next day and ceilidh tickets will be on sale for Saturday evening.

We would be grateful if local runners could pick their numbers up before 8pm if possible. For those arriving on the 8pm ferry from Ullapool, registration is a short 400m walk from the ferry terminal. If the ferry is delayed don’t worry we will stay open longer!

There will be no on the day or Friday night entries for the half marathon or 10k. Entries must be made by the online deadline.

Half Marathon start

Toilets and changing

Please be aware toilet facilities at the start line are more limited than normal. Runners will have access to the Marina toilets but the public toilets in Perceval Square are closed. Ferry

If you plan to travel to Stornoway by ferry you need to arrive on the Friday night at latest to make the Saturday 10am race start. You can travel from Ullapool to Stornoway or Uig (Skye) to Tarbert (Harris).

Book ferry travel here – https://www.calmac.co.uk/

Also use CalMac’s public transport journey planner to plan your trip to the island – CalMac Journey Planner

Runners travelling to the island via the Ullapool to Stornoway ferry can either take the Citylink bus from Inverness (https://www.citylink.co.uk/) to Ullapool or drive and leave their cars there. Travelling as a foot passenger is fine if you don’t plan to travel outside of the town. Registration, race start and most accommodation in the town will be no more than a 10-15 minute walk. If you plan to take your car to the island we would recommend booking well in advance.

It is possible to catch the afternoon ferry from Stornoway to Ullapool on Saturday after the race, but we would recommend staying until Sunday to enjoy the post race hospitality and evening ceilidh!

If you take the Uig to Tarbert ferry it is an approx. 50-60 minute drive to Stornoway.

Air

You can fly direct to Stornoway with Loganair from Inverness, Glasgow or Edinburgh.

Accomodation
