Traigh Hard Tour of Lewis Final Details!

Thanks so much for signing up for the 2022 Tour, hope you’re all looking forward to four days of fun in the sun as much as we are! Here are hopefully most of the details you will need. Remember you can do as many of the races as you like.

Oh firstly, we’re looking for timekeepers for a couple of the races. If you know anyone that can help please let us know!

Race numbers

– The entry list with your race number is here Using up leftover Sty Half numbers, hence the randomness ūüôā
– You can collect your number before the first race you run, please keep it and wear it at each race.

Wednesday 20th July – Habost (Ness) Machair Race (5km) – Race start 6.30pm

РA new location for the Machair race this year! Please meet at the Habost (Ness) Cemetery car park, which overlooks Eoropie beach just to the South of it, by 6.15pm
– Please park here –¬†
– The entire route will be marked with small red flags.

Thursday 21st July – The Gallows hill race (approx 5km) – Race start 6pm

– The race will start on the old pitch beside Alastair Glover’s Hub Cycle caf√© on Willowglen Road, please¬†be there by 5.45pm.
– Please don’t park at the Hub Cafe or the golf club, please use other parking in the area.
– The route is unmarked! It’s entirely¬†up to you how you¬†get to the top of Gallows hill and back. With one exception, please do not enter the golf course!

Friday 22nd July – The Macleod & Macleod Marag Mile – Race heats start from 6pm

– Please meet on the Stornoway Running track by 5.45pm.
– Everyone will set off in different heats with folk of a similar ability depending on the predicted time you gave.
– Macleod & Macleod have kindly sponsored us with yummy marags for the category winners!
– We hope to have a BBQ after from around 7pm so please hang around, welcome to bring your own refreshments and some baking.

Saturday 23rd – The Traigh Mhor Beach Race (5km) – Race starts at 11am

– Please meet at the Traigh Mhor (Tolsta) car park by 10.45am.
– The route is unmarked, you just need to run on the sand all the way to the end of the beach and back!
– We will have a wee prize giving straight after the race.

Saturday night ceilidh in the barn!

– The final event of the Traigh Hard will be a ceilidh in Scott Macrury’s barn next Coll to the beach!
– Location –¬†
– It will be very informal, come whenever you like but we’ll probably get going from 8pm-ish. Feel free to bring friends.
– It is bring your own refreshments, snacks, etc.
– And Scott says anyone is welcome to camp/campervan there, there’s lots of space in the field.

Other stuff

– Points will be awarded based on your finishing place in each race and there will be bonus points if you do all 4 races!
– There will be prizes and a wee momento for everyone that completes the four races.
– Footwear, you will get away with road shoes in all four races. Trail shoes are advisable if you want a bit more grip for the Machair race and Beach race.
РThe cost is £5 for the full series or £2 per race, please pay this in cash.
– Please try and car share as much as possible especially if you are travelling to the races in Ness and Tolsta. Just in case we are tight for parking.

The Traigh Hard Tour of Lewis is back! Are you brave enough to Traigh all four races.

Four days, four races. This is the second year of our summer Tour, the races might not be exactly the same as last year to keep you on your toes. If you didn’t take part last year it’s a very relaxed, fun, social wee series. Each race distance is no more than 5km.¬† More details will be emailed to you near the time so get signed up! There’s no commitment at all if you do sign up payment will be taken on the day(s). We also plan to have a wee celebration/Ceilidh on the Saturday night too!

Please note: the following schedule is a guide, the order of races and times may change a little. We will confirm closer to the time.

Wed 20th July (6.30pm) – Machair 5km trail race, location TBC.

Thurs 21st July (6pm) – Gallows Hill race (approx 5km), Lews Castle Grounds.

Fri 22nd July (6pm) – The Marag Mile on the running track, Stornoway Running Track.

Saturday 23rd July (11am) – Traigh Mhor 5km beach race, Tolsta.

You can do as many as you like, even just one! Its £2 per race or £5 for the series. Races are open to non-club members too.
